Our first MVMRUG MEETING of 1999 was held in Columbus, Ohio, the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes, German Village, and the Franklin Park Conservatory .
Columbia Energy Group Service Corporation, is located at 1600 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 at the intersection of Dublin Road and Fifth Avenue. It's the first time in many years that we hosted our meeting at a member site and it worked out very well. IBM hosted our lunch in Columbia's cafeteria and everyone enjoyed the meal as well as interesting conversation. A very special "thank you" is extended to both Columbia Energy Group Service Corporation and IBM for their hospitality.
The Holiday Inn at 2350 Westbelt Drive in Columbus hosted our overnight stay and everyone found their accommodations very comfortable.
Our Thursday night dinner and social is hard to describe. You just had to be there to enjoy the mood of two rivers covered with white mist, swans, trains, thunder, lightning, a cozy fire and the Columbus skyline.
When we arrived, the River Club Restaurant was enveloped with fog. We dined in a large, dimly lit room with a cozy fireplace where we were served wonderful, mouth-watering cuisine. Everyone commented about the fog, but it was obvious that no one was going to let it damper their spirits. However, before the evening was over, we could see the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers swifting flowing downstream together with a swan family enjoying their energies. The trains chugged across the bridge over the river and then it appeared that Spring was in the air when the thunder and and lighting danced across the sky and lit up our dining area. Before the evening was over, the city lights flickered in the background and everyone was enjoying what appeared to be a light show as the fog slowly rose (and occasionally fell) to reveal even more of the Columbus skyline.
What a wonderful evening! (This restaurant is definitely worth visiting the next time you are in Columbus!)
