Ying is the Director of VM and VSE Business Unit, S/390 Division, IBM Server Group. Ying and her team are responsible for ensuring IBM provides the VM and VSE customer set with the best information technology solutions to meet their busines needs. Her organization draws upon all of the IBM products and services, builds alliances with business partners, solution providers and system integrators to deliver these solutions. The business unit provides business direction to the VM and VSE development team and operates as a profit center.
Ying joined IBM in 1981 as an engineer at the Mid-Hudson Valley Laboratory in Poughkeepsie, new York. For the following ten years, she held a variety of technical and managerial posts in large systems hardware development, engineering system test worldwide product introduction and post-sales engineering support. In 1992, Ying joined IBM's sales and distribution organization in North America. As a large systems marketing advisor, Ying focused on competitive marketing against Amdahl, Hitachi Data Systems and Hewlett Packard. She returned to the S/390 Division in December, 1993 when she was appointed administrative assistant to the Vice President of Marketing.
In 1995, Ying went on an international assignment in Beijing, China. She was the sales manager of High End and Server Storage Systems, IBM China. During her tenure in China, Ying focused on local skill development, infrastructure building as well as achieving business results. Her entire team were members of the IBM Hundred Prcent Club for 1997. Ying was appointed to her current post in June, 1998. She has moved back to the US since August 1998.
Ying holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Taipei Institute of Technology, Taiwan and an M.S. in Computer Science from Union College, Schenectady, New York.
