VM Application & Server Instrumentation

In this session, "If you can't measure it, I'm not Interested", Barton Robinson showed us various ways that he is working with vendors to use the VM monitor to assist with the tuning of their application code.

FOCUS (Information Builders), Enterprise Web (Beyond Software), TCP/IP and the OfficeVision Calendar Feature (IBM) were some of the applications which he discussed.

The idea is for the application to make use of a facility in VM which enables any application to insert its own data into the monitor stream. Barton then vows to enhance his own software (ESAMAP/ESAMON) to report on this data (assuming he is provided sample data to work with). He provided several examples of how this has been a benefit for the applications he has worked with so far.
