9:30 p.m. TRACK (What's happening in your Virtual Machines?)
Jim Vincent
Nationwide Insurance
Abstract
TRACK is a powerful routine used to examine one or
more virtual machines as they execute. With a very
rich set of functions you can see details on the
VMDBK, registers, PSW, real and virtual storage,
virtual device information, the virtual console
contents and a whole lot more! Once you try it, you
will find you can't live without it. It is one of
the tools a VM Systems Programmer will always want
handy, especially when trying to debug problems
with virtual machines. The speaker will introduce
you to TRACK, provide some tips for building it for
your VM system, and a few how-to's on its usage.

10:45 a.m. Introduction to the NJE/IP Bridge
David Boyes
Sine Nomine Associates
Abstract
In response to a suggestion following my MVMRUG
presentation a few months back on Linux appliances,
this presentation describes the creation and
function of a NJE over IP appliance suitable for
connecting NJE_capable systems over an IP link
without requiring native TCPNJE support in the
operating system. The talk covers the development
and design process of the appliance, some sample
scenarios where it would be useful, and some
implementation experiences in real network environments.
The code is available from Barnard Software, and if
we can get a network connection, we'll see some
live examples of using the code.

1:00 p.m. Investigating IPv6 for CMS: What Shall We DO?
David Boyes
Sine Nomine Associates
Abstract
Now that IPv6 is beginning to see substantial deploy-
ment, many organizations are starting to assess
whether their systems and communications infra-
structure is prepared to handle a transition to
using IPv6 natively. What this talk explores is
the current state of the VM TCPIP stack and IBM's
announced IVv6 support for VM, and what additional
resources will be necessary to actually provide a
working IPv6 environment for CMS. In this talk, I
explore a quick intro to IPv6 concepts, application
requirements, and a short gap analysis for the
current stack, and some suggested areas of research
to provide a smooth transition for a CMS environ-
ment into the next generation of networking.

2:15 p.m. Socket Programming
Will Roden
IBM
Abstract
Programmers are using the socket programming
interface more now than ever. In this presentation,
I will discuss how to program using the socket
interface in C, REXX, and CMS Pipelines. I will
also discuss some implementation details of
socket enabled servers. Finally, we will review a
popular sniffer program and other interesting
Pipeline techniques.
