 9:00 a.m. MVMRUG Business Meeting

 9:15 a.m. Virtualization Basics
           Brian Wade, VM Development,
           IBM

           Abstract

Meant for those new to z/VM or zSeries, this presentation
shows how z/VM uses a single zSeries computer to create
the appearance of many disjoint zSeries machines, each
working without knowledge of the others. Key topics include
the virtual machine model, the components of z/VM, the role
of the SIE instruction, and the virtualization and management
of various physical computing resources, such as processor,
           memory ,and I/O.

10:45 a.m. Break

11:00 a.m. VM Performance
           Brian Wade, VM Development
           IBM

           Abstract

The speaker will cover new developments in z/VM
performance. Topics include the latest z/VM releases
and performance-related service. Most of the information
will relate to z/VM 4.4.0, but a few topics from z/VM
           5.1.0 will be covered too.

1:15 p.m. Hidden Gems on VM: Great Tools You Never Knew You Had
           Jim Vincent,
           Nationwide Insurance

           Abstract

Did you know there are disks containing sample code
that are included with your z/VM or VM/ESA
installation? These disks contains useful tools and
utilities which are often over looked. Jim will
reveal these hidden gems to you in this presentation
which was voted "best session" at Share.

 2:15 p.m. Break

2:30 p.m. Dynamically Managing Hardware I/O Configuration Using VM
           Rick Barlow,
           Nationwide Insurance

           Abstract

With continually increasing demand to provide
high availability of systems, it is important
to be able to manage the hardware I/O configuration
without requiring an outage. The focus is on functions
included in VM to manage the hardware I/O con
figuration of the processor on which your VM system runs.
The concepts and commands will be covered in detail and
working examples will be presented. The presentation will
focus on the CP commands for managing the hardware
configuration and not the HCD feature that was introduced
           with z/VM Version 4 Release 4.

 3:45 p.m. Door Prizes/Closing/Q & A/Socializing
