Abstract
Everyone knows the answer to any VM performance
question is "It Depends". This presentation
will look at the answers to the real question
of "What does it depend on?". Topics will
include definitions of performance, various
monitoring approaches, and resources (Processor,
Memory, I/O). While most of the presentation
will deal with guests in general, there will be
sections particular to Linux guests.

What Works, What Doesn't, and Why (Part I)
Scott Courtney,
Sine Nomine Associates
Abstract
Linux on S/390 and zSeries mainframes has now
had three years to mature, and patterns have
emerged from real-world experience to tell us
what types of projects are good candidates for
mainframe Linux server consolidation. We have
also learned what project types don't work well.
This presentation will examine what's been
learned and will briefly explore the relation-
ship between mainframe Linux consolidation and
other server consolidation alternatives.
