9:30 a.m. Measuring and Tuning Linux for z Servers
           Barton Robinson, Velocity Software, Inc.

           Abstract

Performance data now exists that allows
you to manage your Linux server performance.
Using this data also helps you plan platform
changes such as moving workloads from an
Intel platform to an S/390 platform.

Managing Linux performance on an S/390
under z/VM with shared memory, shared
processor and even shared DASD provides
a different set of challenges as compared
            to managing performance for dedicated
            Intel servers.

This presentation will look at some
            Linux performance issue and technology
used to analyze and manage Linux
performance - either for dedicated servers
            or under VM.

The author has worked with VM performance
for 20 years, and is the author of performance
tools for VM, Network and Linux, and is
well versed in how to apply performance data to
            real problems.
