 8:45 a.m. z/VM Platform Update - What's New in V4
           Reed Mullen, IBM VM

           Abstract

Launched in July of 2001, z/VM Version 4 has
already seen three releases of new functions. This
presentation will give you an overview of the
           latest capabilities shipped in z/VM 4.3.0. You'll
also find out how z/VM is priced differently than
VM/ESA or z/VM V3, offering cost savings for
existing VM customers and making it easy for new
VM users to deploy Linux with z/VM on your zSeries
processor complex. A discussion of z/VM futures
           will be included.

10:00 a.m. Break

10:15 a.m. z/VM CP Exit Facility
           SFS Products
           CMS Nucleus Extensions
           John Hall, Safe Software

           Abstract

Today's session will cover the z/VM CP Exit
Facility and how Safe Software has taken advantage
of it to dramatically enhance the use of the
Shared File System (SFS). Attendees will learn
some basics of writing CP Exits to change and enhance
various CP and CMS facilities. The session will
finish with a quick overview of the Shared File
System and how Safe Software can help you take
           advantage of SFS.

11:30 a.m. The Value of zSeries Virtualization
           Technology for Linux
           Reed Mullen, IBM VM

           Abstract

This presentation will explain the business value
and technological advantages of running Linux
systems in virtual machines using IBM's z/VM product.
Much of the "buzz" surrounding Linux on the mainframe
comes from running Linux on VM. You'll learn about
           the details generating the buzz.

12:30 a.m. MVMRUG 16th Anniversary Lunch (will be hosted by CHP)

 1:15 p.m. Linux/390 System Management for the
           Mainframe System Programmer
           Mark Post,
           EDS

           Abstract

More and more, mainframe systems programmers are
being asked to install and manage Linux/390. They
have years of experience in installing and
           managing 'traditional' IBM mainframe operating
systems such as MVS and VM, but don't know where
to start with Linux/390. This session will
           concentrate on 'translating' typical system
management tasks to the Linux/390 environment
by comparing and contrasting the familiar with
           the new.

 2:45 p.m. BREAK

3:00 p.m. Linux under VM - Some of the Technicals
           Rich Smrcina,
           Sytek Services

           Abstract

The speaker will provide installation, configuration
and usage information for Linux for S/390 and some
popular open source and commercial software packages.
Networking options and features will also be discussed.
Included in this discussion will be SuSE Linux,
useful Linux utilities, BIND (a DNS server), Apache
Big Brother (a network monitor), Sendmail, Samba,
DB2 UDB, DB2/Connect, and WEBSphere Application
           Server.
